The ocean has no shortage of predators looking for a quick meal. And the Australian sea lion is no exception.
At sea, she turns into a voracious predator.
National Geographic scientists placed a camera on this mama seal's back.
The Crittercam returned with footage that has never been seen before.
The sea lion has spotted an octopus...and immediately launches an attack.
She manages to get her mouth on her prey, but just one bite isn't enough.
She drags her quarry towards the surface, so she can continue to feed...and breathe.
But the octopus escapes...for a moment.
It tries to confuse its attacker with a faceful of ink.
But the sea lion keeps coming.
With each bite, she dismantles the octopus tentacle by tentacle.
It's cruel, but effective—with no legs, the victim can't swim away.
Soon there's almost nothing left.
