Inside the Musical Genius of Tchaikovsky
During his World Cup tour of Russia, National Geographic reporter Sergey Gordeev sets out to discover why the composer of the “1812 Overture” and “Swan Lake” continues to be such a great influence on music. We visit the national conservatory in Moscow which bears Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s name, and stop by the composer’s home in Klin, Russia, to play the piano he used to create “The Nutcracker.” Also, Russia’s most celebrated classical pianist Denis Matsuev demonstrates why he thinks Tchaikovsky’s music continues to touch so many.
