An Incredibly Close Look at the Hourglass Frog and Its Tadpoles
Take a look at one of Costa Rica's native amphibians: the hourglass tree frog. During the rainy season, the tree frogs will mate and lay clutches of eggs on leaves overhanging water. Once developed, tadpoles will hatch and jump into the water below.

These frogs mostly inhabit the humid lowlands of Costa Rica.
Tadpoles develop on leaves until they hatch and jump into the water below.
Mating happens during the rainy season, when there are plenty of temporary, natural pools.
Without fresh water, these frogs would struggle to preserve their species.
