Rare Snowfall Covers Rome’s Monuments
February 26, 2018—For Rome, a city with typically mild winters, the cold weather covering much of Europe is more diversion than disaster. At less than two inches, the snow covering is small by northern standards. But it's the first major snowfall to hit Rome since 2012. Schools and attractions closed, but at sites like the Colosseum and the Vatican, snowball fights added novelty for visitors. The army cleared blocked streets, and police asked residents to stay home if possible.
