Iranian Motorcyclist Continues to Race Despite Her Country's Ban
In Iran, women are forbidden from riding a bike in public. It is considered a threat to morality. If caught riding, women have been arrested, punished or fined. For years, Behnaz Shafiei has been campaigning for the right to race as a professional motorbike rider in Iran. Today, she is training in the U.S. According to Behnaz, she “came to America to practice motorcycle riding properly, and to be able to return to Iran and elevate Iran in regards to this field.” Motorcycle riding gave her confidence and strength. It changed her life. She wants to move her country forward in regards to women being able to ride - creating progress in terms of sports and culture. Behnaz is determined to “show people what Iranian women are like.”
