November 4, 2016 - The largest earthworm ever recorded in the UK was found in a vegetable plot. Named "Dave" by its discoverers, it is 15.75 inches long and weighs as much as a small chocolate bar. Its size is unusual because earthworms have many predators and normally do not survive in the wild to reach Dave's size.
The worm was brought to the Natural History Museum in London to be studied by experts. Museum scientist Emma Sherlock suggests Dave was able to thrive on very fertile soil.
