April 05, 2018 - Mowgli, a rescued sloth bear, recently celebrated his first year at an Indian rescue center. In 2017, the sloth bear cub was found in a forest in Madhya Pradesh, India. Mowgli’s mother had been killed by a trap set by poachers. Upon rescue, a Wildlife SOS team moved the cub to a rescue facility in Agra. The traumatized cub was tended to by caretakers and slowly began to regain confidence. While visibly in good spirits, the cub can never be released back into the wild. Sloth bear cubs learn survival skills from their mother during the first two years of life.
