March 11, 2018 - On the premiere episode of National Geographic’s America Inside Out with Katie Couric, New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu explains why he supported taking down monuments that commemorate the Civil War Confederacy in his city. Couric travels from Montgomery to Charlottesville,the front lines in the highly controversial and sometimes violent battle over removing Confederate monuments and renaming buildings, schools and roads named after Confederate generals. She meets with people on all sides of this divisive issue, including Landrieu who said he was inspired by jazz legend and another New Orleans native Wynton Marsalis to begin the long, controversial process of removing Confederate monuments.
