Toxic Lake Bursts Into Flames
January 22, 2018 - A highly polluted lake in India caught on fire, but it isn’t the first time this has happened. Bellandur Lake, the largest lake in the city, is filled with garbage, chemical waste and construction debris. While the cause of the fire is unknown, it’s believed that toxic fumes and materials fed the blaze. In 2017, the lake caught on fire twice in two major instances.
This month officials dispatched 5,000 soldiers to battle the flames and they were able to put out the fire 24 hours later, preventing the destruction of nearby residential areas.
