January 12, 2018 - Archaeologists in Peru discovered a ceremonial complex that’s more than 1,500 years old ... confirming practices that had only previously been depicted in art. The site was used as a ceremonial banquet hall by the pre-Hispanic Moche people. The Moche ruled the coast of northern Peru until they were mysteriously wiped out around 700 AD. The complex would have played host to Moche nobility for political and social activities. Once-colorful murals of marine life, including sea lions and fish, were found at the site, along with pyramid-like structures made of adobe. Artifacts and human remains were also found.
