Firefighter Saves Deer Stranded on Slippery Ice
December 12, 2017—A deer was struggling to get its footing on a smooth frozen pond in the central Oregon town of Sunriver. But firefighter Jeff "JJ" Johnston, arriving on the scene at Woodlands Golf Course, had the right equipment to help. An ice rescue sled spreads out weight on thin ice and stays afloat on water. Nudging the deer with the front of the craft, the fireman carefully pushed it ashore. You could call it an exercise for the rescue team—and a stroke of luck for the deer.
