Nov. 30, 2017 - This harrier-hawk in Kruger National Park, South Africa, is about to receive a gruesome, and nutritious, prize—a nestling weaver bird. African harrier-hawks have long double-jointed legs, enabling them to reach into nests to grab birds. They also rely on hearing to help identify concealed prey. After grabbing its prey, the hawk swiftly decapitates the smaller bird. Harrier-hawks are no strangers to violence—after hatching, they often fight their siblings to the death.
