Ancient Remains Offer Clues About Early Americans
August 31, 2017 - Archaeologists in eastern El Salvador discovered skeletal remains dating back 2,500 years. Four pieces of pottery were discovered along with the bodies as offerings meant to aid the deceased's journey to the afterlife. This find is unusual because it's isolated from other large cemeteries and offering sites. During this period, 1,200 to 400 B.C, eastern El Salvador was inhabited by an indigenous group called the Lenca. The bones and pottery will be cleaned and documented before being added to a museum.
