Dian Fossey's Life with Gorillas Revealed in Rarely Seen Film
Transcript
In November 1973, zoologist Dian Fossey presented this National Geographic documentary in front of a live audience in Washington, D.C.
The film covered Fossey’s study of and interaction with the great apes of Central Africa from 1967 to 1972.
By 1969, she had spent 2,000 hours directly observing the gorillas.
The film featured Fossey’s favorite gorilla, Digit.
The young male was killed by poachers in 1977.
Portions of the film were used in various TV specials over the years … but it was only shown in its 13-minute entirety during the 1973 lecture.
