August 22, 2017 - Scientists turned to a tried-and-true method to reveal the mysterious world of Antarctic penguins—put a camera on them. Gentoo penguins live in isolated Antarctic regions, and are difficult to study. The penguin-cams reveal how the aquatic birds use calls and vocalizations to form underwater groups. They likely come together to forage food, but the call's exact function is unknown. The researchers hope to learn more by attaching cameras on multiple penguins within the same group.
