Plant-Eating Sharks Actually Exist?
Transcript
Sharks are known to be largely carnivorous.
But a new study found that bonnethead sharks also eat a large amount of plants.
Here, researchers placed seagrass as bait, and the sharks devoured it.
Analysis showed that 56% of the bonnetheads’ diet consisted of seagrass.
Researchers don’t know why bonnetheads are feeding this way.
They hope to study further the sharks’ digestive behavior to see if they’re getting nutritional value from the grass, which would make them true omnivores.
