All This Dazzling Wildlife Lives on One Small Island
April 29, 2017 - An astonishing variety of animals—snakes and starfish, bees and bats, monkeys and macaws, crustaceans and crocodilians—all inhabit a small island called Coiba off the Pacific coast of Panama and the waters that surround it. Along with an international team of experts, Biologist and National Geographic photographer Christian Ziegler helped catalogue the diversity of wildlife in the island’s ecosystems in a survey called a Bioblitz. A former prison colony, the island became a time capsule for nature by accident of history. Now Ziegler and his colleagues want to help this unique national park gain recognition to keep it safe.
