April 7, 2017 - While calibrating equipment used to study deep sea creatures, Australia’s
Marine National Facility captured this footage of one squid attacking another. Scientists are uncertain of the exact species of the squid involved, but they are likely neon flying squid or
Nototodarus gouldi. It’s also possible the squid are two different species. The attack took place at a depth of about 443 feet below sea level.

Beneath the ocean off the coast of Tasmania …
… one squid attacks another.
There are about 70 cephalopod species in what some scientists call the Southern Ocean.
While the squid species in this video haven’t been formally identified, other squid species are known to cannibalize and hunt each other.
