Watch a 3-Hour Solar Eclipse in 1 Minute
Feb. 27, 2017 - Some people in the Southern Hemisphere were treated to an annular eclipse on February 26. Unlike a total solar eclipse, annular eclipses occur when the moon is farther from Earth and appears to be smaller than the visible disk of the sun, so it does not cover the sun completely. This video, captured in Santa Fe, Argentina, shows the partial eclipse that was visible outside the path of totality. Instead of the full ring, viewers saw the moon seem to take a bite out of the sun.
