49 Sinkholes Found in China Cluster
Transcript
A geological survey of Hanzhong in northwest China discovered a cluster of 49 natural sinkholes.
Some of the sinkholes are nearly a thousand feet deep.. One is 1,706 feet in diameter.
The survey also found more than 10 types of rare plants, primitive forests, and Chinese giant flying squirrels.
The sinkholes are natural vertical caves that were formed through long-term water erosion.
These specific sites were well preserved due to their remote location.
Researchers say these sinkholes around Hanzhong hold valuable Paleoclimate data … which may offer clues to the earth’s climate in the past.
Local governments have started work to protect these caves.
