Watching male sage grouse on the lek, it’s somewhat of a
comedy, mixed with violence, and then there’s a little bit of sex.
Every Spring Sage Grouse congregate on these leks –
Scandinavian word that means ‘to play’.
The boys show up on the Lek to fight, posture. They’re there
to fight for the right to breed.
And the only reason the boys are there is because the girls
are in the vicinity.
When a hen is walking through the Lek, the boys are on their
best behavior just trying to show that they have the best genetics, they have
the best feathers, please choose me.
