With a new portrait series, "Outnumbered," photographer Clare Fieseler offers a fresh look at
women scientists at work in the field. Her images—featuring a tough-as-nails swamp biologist, a tattooed nanochemist who cycles competitively, and others—challenge monochrome preconceptions of
women scientists. The portraits also provide a touchstone for young
women who aspire to careers in
science. Fieseler is also a marine ecologist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
