Lone Guardian Keeps Watch on “Poor Man’s Galápagos”
Off the coast of Peru, a series of islands known as the Poor Man's
Galápagos are inhabited only
by seabirds and sea lions. Just one person is permitted on the largest of these dry, barren islands as
its guardian. It's a job of solitude, separation from family, and
living among the birds' guano and the constant barking of sea lions.
