Meet the winners of the first National Geographic GeoChallenge
Over a thousand teams across the country participated in National Geographics's inaugural GeoChallenge. The competition asked teams of middle schoolers to develop solutions to a major real-world problem: plastic pollution. 16 were invited to National Geographic headquarters for the finals. The winning team, the "Navigators" from Flushing, New York, designed a filtration device that would fit on the front of a boat and filter microplastics out of the Hudson River.
