Beluga whales are known as the canaries of the sea because they have a repertoire of high-pitched sounds they use to communicate with one another.
They're very social, and frankly, once they start squealing-they just won't shut up.
Babies start making noises within hours of being born.
But all the whistling in the world won't do any good, if the baby finds himself beached.
This pod of belugas has moved into shallow waters.
It's summertime in the Arctic. Time to molt.
The baby has become separated from its mother and stranded on the shore.
He cries out for help. But the pod can do nothing.
He broils under the hot sun, hoping the returning tide comes...before a polar bear does.
A tide surge sweeps in and sweeps him out.
Lesson learned: stay close to mom.
