Beauty Through the Microscope: Bugs Like You’ve Never Seen Them Before

Levon Biss takes sports portraits for a living. He's worked with world-class athletes and published front-page photographs. Wanting a project to work on at home that would combine his passion for photography and nature, he started taking macrophotographs ... of bugs. The result? "Microsculpture—a unique photographic study of insects in mind-blowing magnification." In this short film, Biss explains what is required to portray one insect and delight the audience with an unforgettable viewing experience.

The Short Film Showcase spotlights exceptional short videos created by filmmakers from around the web and selected by National Geographic editors. We look for work that affirms National Geographic's belief in the power of science, exploration, and storytelling to change the world. The filmmakers created the content presented, and the opinions expressed are their own, not those of National Geographic Partners.
