        To survive quiksand one must lay down very soon, long before you get as deep as the man in the demonstration.  do not wait until you are knee deep.  Then roll or swim out.  Strangely enough there is quicksand in South Texas... particularly the King Ranch.  In 8th grade I had a teacher who had taught in the school there who related to us in class what she was told to save herself if she got into quicksand.  I was once in what I felt was quicksand in a creek at the edge of the King Ranch.   I did not wait... got out immediately.
