- "El Caiman Libre Va" - Antonio "El Curi" Curiel is a transplanted Spanish singer/songwriter working in Cuba. On this track, from his 2004 album, En La Habana, he performs with legendary Afro-Cuban roots band Septeto Santiaguero.
- "El Pepepez" - Los de Abajo was formed in Mexico City in 1992 and named for the novel by Mariano Azuela, which tells the story of the Mexican revolution through the eyes of the working class, and their music displays that same political spirit.
- "Fo m Ale" - Haitian singer Emeline Michel brings a jazz and gospel background to bear on the folkloric style known as "twobadou"—which translates as "troubadour." This song is from her 2003 album Cordes Et Ame.
- "Guajira" - New York-based Latin alternative band Yerba Buena is the brainchild of producer and multi instrumentalist Andres Levin. This track is taken from the group's 2005 release Island Life.
- "Inovidable" - Pianist Bebo Valdés is a veteran of the mid-century "golden age" of Cuban music. Now in his eighties, Valdés made this recording of a Cuban standard with Spanish flamenco singer Diego "la Cigala" in 2005.
- "Koka" - Kiran Ahluwalia lives in Canada, but was born in the Punjab in India, and specializes in Punjabi folksongs and ghazals. This song, about a girl choosing between suitors, comes from her self-titled 2005 release.
- "La Jelenguera" - Cuban ensemble Septeto Santiaguero is a venerable seven-piece outfit that hails from the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba and specializes in the son, guaguancó, bolero, guajira and guaracha traditions of the region.
- "Man In A Hat" - New York's Klezmatics are one of the first wave of klezmer music revival groups, and a hard driving, This track is a rousing bulgar, (a Jewish wedding dance) from the group's 1995 debut, Jews With Horns.
- "Melting Pot" - Fronted by Venezuelan Andrew Blanco, New York-based King Chango is a funky melting pot of people and musical styles. This track is taken from the group's self-titled 1996 debut.
- "Mengadegna" - This is an excerpt from a performance by Ethiopian singer Gigi with Tabla Beat Science and features the venerable Ustad Sultan Khan adding his own vocal embellishments, alongside Zakir Hussein's inspired tabla playing.
- "Pour Ton Sourire" - French-Canadian singer-cellist Jorane Jorane has forged a distinctive sound of her own—not quite ambient, not quite folk or classical. This track was written by Daniel Lanois, who joins her on guitar and vocals.
- "Return of the Tres" - Mexican-American hip-hop group Delinquent Habits uses the sounds of Mariachi as the touchstone of this bilingual, 2001 homage to Chicano musical identity.
- "Sni Bong" - Cambodian-American group Dengue Fever revive the campy, local version of psychedelic pop that was popular in Cambodia in the 1960s—with the help of singer Chhom Nimol, who comes from an authentic Khmer musical dynasty.
- "Sonando" - Cuban flutist and composer Orlando "Maraca" Valle was a child prodigy—playing with the band Irakere at the age of 16. This video reflects Cuba's unique combination of classical and homegrown styles.

- "Ya No Hace Falta" - Bamboleo is a Cuban dance band known for their hard-hitting timba music—a style that's a homegrown Cuban answer to New York salsa. "Ya No Hace Falta" is the title track of the group's now classic 1991 album.
