Birth of a Tornado
May 21, 2013—Two days before a tornado—with winds clocked at over 200 miles per hour—tore through suburban Oklahoma City on May 20, National Geographic explorer and storm researcher Tim Samaras captured this video of a tornado forming in south-central Kansas. EDITOR'S NOTE: Tragically, just 10 days after this video was recorded, Tim Samaras died in an Oklahoma tornado, along with his son Paul, who shot this video, and Carl Young, a frequent partner of Tim's. Read here for more on his death. And click here for a compilation of Tim's videos on National Geographic here.

This song won't save your life in a killer storm, but it might make you feel better when the rain starts the next time ...
