Sylvia Earle Introduces President Obama To His New Namesake Fish

September 2, 2016 - National Geographic EXCLUSIVE: National Geographic Explorer-In-Residence Sylvia Earle introduced President Obama to his new namesake fish during a visit to Midway Atoll. The President traveled to Midway Atoll for a day following his expansion of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. At 582,000 square miles (1,507,373 square kilometers), the monument has now quadrupled in size, making it larger than all U.S. national parks combined. The remote Midway Atoll is one of several islands surrounded by the protected area, and is among the few that can be visited.
